Researchers from the Higher School of Linguodidactics and Translation of the Humanitarian Institute (HI) of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the Laboratory of Industrial Systems of Streaming Data Processing of the NTI SPbPU Competence Center have developed a digital service PolyText, which can be used to assess how readers perceive content containing text and illustrations, as well as how this content affects them. This was reported by the press service of the NTI SPbPU Center .

Determining the complexity of a text is an important task, as it affects its readability and perception. This is relevant for preparing textbooks for various disciplines, developing materials for those studying foreign languages, increasing the legal literacy of the population, solving problems of automatic text processing, evaluating various documentation, language content of websites, and so on, - explained the importance of the development, Director of the Higher School of Linguodidactics and Translation, Professor Anna Rubtsova.
The digital service is based on a neural network model, the development of which involved collecting and analyzing the most significant metrics for assessing the quality of text for native Russian speakers and foreign citizens who speak it. The digital service evaluates the text based on two indicators: linguistic and visual. Linguistic analysis takes into account the lexical and grammatical composition of sentences, metrics of morphological, lexical and syntactic complexity, indicators of coherence and structuring of the text.
