Who are the people working to combat COVID-19? Anyone who believes that only scientists work in the health sector is mistaken.
Data science extracts information, generates new ideas and makes predictions using scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems from structured (organized) or unstructured data (messages, images, etc.). Below, I will present just 3 examples from hundreds of groups mobilized around the world, using data science to mitigate the impacts on society, the economy and especially health:
Data Scientist Alert
Tomas Pueyo is an engineer who wrote a paper that has received millions of views. He’s not an epidemiologist, but that doesn’t mean his data analysis is flawed. Pueyo’s analysis exemplifies what has come to be hungary number dataset as the “flatten the curve” strategy. The gist of the analysis is that COVID-19 is now a pandemic, so it can’t be eliminated, but its impact can be reduced. The goal is to try to get as few people infected at the same time as possible, which will lengthen the period of infection and increase the workload of healthcare systems around the world.
Loft Predictions
The Data Science team at Loft (a Brazilian startup that buys and sells apartments) conducted a study to predict the pandemic scenarios in Brazil. In order to understand how COVID-19 will spread across Brazil in order to make business decisions and also raise awareness in the community, the Loft team published its study that projects the peak in the second week of April.
Business Intelligence for the benefit of humanity
One of the world's leading Business Intelligence and data analysis software programs, Tableau, has launched a special page so that companies around the world can use data about the pandemic within their business. It is possible to cross-reference internal data with the spread of the coronavirus in various regions of the world. Several companies and institutions are already making their analyses publicly available through the Tableau platform.
