Integrated services: take advantage of its business benefits

Discover how to maintain the agility needed for information management with a catalog and why this is an issue that integrated services solves.
Some companies are beginning to wonder whether data governance is better for them than self-service BI. They are wondering how to maintain the agility needed to manage information with a catalogue, a question that integrated services could solve .

Data hunger
Business users have always been malaysia number dataset for information, even long before integrated services were ever heard of . In fact, as early as the 1990s, some were independently discovering and combining data from different sources, then aggregating it in Excel and presenting it to colleagues or superiors as processed knowledge.

With the advent of technological advancements, such as self-service Business Intelligence tools, data aggregation, visualization and sharing have become much easier.

Overnight, business users seemed to have mastered data management, feeling self-sufficient, independent of IT , even though IT is the department that, for years, has prepared and governed the use of data in the company. However, this new reality came with new problems:

Correlation, causality, and coverage. With self-service BI tools, organizations expected business users to self-find the causes of major past problems, better predict future market situations, and make better decisions today. However, the path to insight is fraught with obstacles. Most analyses do not take into account all data, even when it is available in the enterprise. What’s more, even when users know that a particular attribute can improve an analysis, they sometimes do not use it for various reasons (such as not being able to find it). This results in incomplete and uncorrelated analyses, which lead to incorrect decisions.

Bad data leading to inaccurate analysis. Sometimes, after business users have done all the work of painstakingly discovering data sources, creating reports, and generating new insights, they realize that the data they used was outdated, came from the wrong source, or had serious data quality issues. Sometimes they realize that they used the information without understanding the business context. If anything, the consequence is that organizations are slowing down as they realize that user-created reports and dashboards cannot be relied upon to make meaningful decisions.
