An MDM platform should not be considered a complete GDPR solution, but it lays the basic foundations for GDPR requirements and in doing so, smooths the transition to these new regulations.
Everyone fears LOPD sanctions and tries to do what is necessary to avoid them. But there is a date related to this issue that all companies should have marked in red on their calendar. On Friday, May 25, 2018, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into force and therefore it is the day from which any organization can be fined up to 4% of its annual turnover.
Most companies are already aware of this and are trying to find solutions. Many providers have also seen the problem and have realized that MDM (Master Data Management) is a good solution that can respond to GDPR and any other type of problems that may lead to LOPD sanctions .
Master Data Management (MDM) is defined by Gartner as a colombia number dataset and uniform set of identifiers and attributes that describe an enterprise's fundamental entities , such as existing customers, prospective customers, citizens, suppliers, employees and patients.
MDM solutions help ensure the uniformity, accuracy, management, semantic consistency, and accountability of an enterprise's shared master data assets.
Personal data can certainly be categorized as master data identifiers and can therefore be governed within an MDM solution.
But the challenge for MDM as a response to GDPR compliance is that personal data also includes non-master data . Such data has limited reuse, or is specific to a single application. Therefore, this data falls outside the boundaries of MDM.
MDM is therefore critical for many organizations to meet their privacy needs , and as a result to achieve GDPR compliance and avoid LOPD penalties. However, an MDM solution is only one component . Organizations must be mindful not to expand the scope of their MDM program to include non-master data.
How exactly are GDPR and MDM connected?
Many companies still keep their customer data in siloed systems across multiple departments, regions and systems . The problem with this is that it frequently causes duplicate, incomplete or conflicting information , with some sources being updated, while others are left in silos to become increasingly out of date.
