What is intra-day work?
The purpose of granting workers so-called breaks or rest periods is to prevent physical and mental fatigue and reduce workplace accidents. In addition, it also ensures greater participation of the individual in social and family life.
Let's see what these rest periods mentioned above might look like.
Interval types
There are some types of breaks that workers can count on, they are:
During the working day – Intra-day break
Between one journey and another – Inter-journey interval
During the working week – Weekly rest
On holidays
Annually – Holidays
However, our topic today is intra-day rest, which are the rest periods offered to employees within their usual daily working hours, so that they can rest, eat or do both.
These rest periods are directly linked to worker health and workplace safety.
We can, with certainty, state that these breaks are necessary to reduce the risks posed to the worker arising from the type of activity he or she carries out, or the environment, especially when it is harmful to health.
We would like to point out that breaks for rest or meals do not count towards the working day. In other words, the working day will be 8 hours plus one hour of rest.
This intraday break must be at least 1 hour and cannot exceed 2 hours, except in the case of a collective agreement or collective labor agreement between the parties.
On the other hand, working days that exceed 4 hours, but do not exceed 6 hours, must include a 15-minute break.
The period during which the employee exercises his/her right to a break during the workday is essential to ensure effective rest. Therefore, breaks cannot be granted at the beginning of the workday and cannot be exchanged for the employee leaving work early.
