2005: A big year for SEO
2005 was a banner year for search engines. In January of that year, Google joined Yahoo and MSN to launch the Nofollow Attribute, which was created in part to reduce the amount of spammy links and comments on websites , especially blogs. Then, in June, Google launched Personalized Search, which used someone’s search and browsing history to improve the relevance of search results.

2009: SEO Reorganization
In 2009, the search engine world changed dramatically. Bing debuted in June, and Microsoft aggressively marketed it as a search engine that delivered significantly better results than Google. But it wasn’t a “Google killer,” as SEL predicted, nor did its suggestions for optimizing content stand out from Google’s. In fact, according to Search Engine Journal, the only noticeable differences were Bing’s tendency to prioritize keywords in URLs, as well as a preference for capitalized words and “pages from large sites.
