"Our search visibility has dropped": This could be because we were ranking for invalid terms like Facebook and we lost that ranking. Our traffic will be fine, but our visibility will be lower. *Not a good metric.
Metric: Organic sessions over time
"Our organic sessions are down": This could easily be due to the weather. We always see a drop during the summer holidays. *Okay, not a good metric either.

"Our organic sessions are down with seasonality and industry-adjusted flatline": *We now have a metric that is getting pretty strong. If this number goes down, we'll keep an eye on it.
You may have to compromise your metrics in terms of resources. The one we just talked about is an ideal. Adjusting for industry, for example, is usually quite difficult. You may have to settle for showing Google trends for some popular terms on another graph, or showing hit-wise industry data on another graph.

See if you find yourself adding more than one or two additional metrics. When you get to three or four, it becomes difficult to analyze the information at a glance.
