1. Call for Submissions: Symposium on Enhancing Compliance with Human Rights from Below in Times of Crisis. The Editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Brill Nijhoff) are inviting submissions for their upcoming (hybrid) symposium on “Enhancing Compliance with Human Rights from Below in Times of Crisis” to be held on Friday 13 December 2024 at the Faculty of Law of Hasselt University, Belgium. This symposium seeks to explore how local communities, grassroots movements, civil society organizations and the general public at large can effectively promote and protect human rights when traditional top-down mechanisms falter in times of crisis (climate change, migration flows or political upheavals, etc). Scholars, practitioners, and activists from diverse disciplines and geographical regions are invited to submit their abstract (max. 250 words) to the General Editor of the Yearbook, Prof. Dr. Matthias Vanhullebusch (email: matthias.vanhullebusch {at} uhasselt(.)be) no later than 30 October 2024. Deadline for articles to Vol. 9 of the Yearbook is 31 January 2025.

2. International Law Colloquium at the Geneva Graduate Institute: Autumn 2024 Programme. The Department of International Law at the Geneva Graduate Institute has announced the Autumn 2024 edition of the International vk database Law Colloquium. The speakers will be presenting and discussing in-depth their works covering different aspects of international law and from different disciplinary perspectives. Presenters include (in chronological order): Oliver Diggelmann (University of Zurich), Franziska Sucker (University of Witwatersrand), Hélène Tigroudja (Aix-Marseille University), Gail Lythgoe (University of Edinburgh), Prabhakar Singh (BML Mujal University), Francisco-José Quintana (EUI/University of Cambridge), and Anna Petrig (University of Basel). 3. The Levan Alexidze International Law Moot Court Competition 2024. The Academician Levan Alexidze Foundation, in close cooperation with the ICMPD, as well as the Georgian American University and the International Criminal Law Centre at Tbilisi State University has announced the launch of “Edition VI 2024” of the Levan Alexidze International Law Moot Court Competition(LA-IL-MCC). The “Edition VI 2024” of the LA-IL-MCC will focus for potential deliberation before the International Court of Justice on the following issues: 1. Legal status of maritime zones of occupied territories under International Law; 2. Coercive environment as a driving force for deportation and transfer from occupied territories, and 3. Massive displacement under the guise of evacuations during active hostilities. Universities and/or other higher educational institutions from Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia are eligible to participate in the Moot Court.
