How does this work
The Mobile First Index concept was born at Google in 2016 and was implemented in search from September 2020 to October 2023. In short, its essence is as follows: Google evaluates the content of a site based on the mobile version.
General Google Indexing Scheme
Google has two main indexing bots (there are actually more, but you'll find a full list below in the article, but for now we'll focus on these two): desktop and mobile. These bots visit your site, crawl it, analyze the content, and upload pages to their servers. Then, based on the data they receive, they decide whether your site's page is included in the ranking for user queries.
Previously, the relevance of URL content was assessed based on data obtained from Google's desktop User-agent. Now, the mobile Googlebot will visit the mobile version of your resource first, and the document's ranking depends on its quality.
Mobile First changes the usual approach to developing a new website. If earlier a prototype for the desktop version was created first, and then they looked for what to abandon in the adaptive version for smartphones, now the most effective method is to consider the mobile version as the basis of your product.
The location of CTA elements, a clear offer on the first screen, loading speed, clear and convenient navigation for a smartphone - these and other nuances of the user experience should be taken into account first and foremost.
Here the question arises: how to look at your site through the eyes of the Google mobile bot? To do this, you need to use the webmaster panel. Select "URL Check" and send the selected page for testing.
