This is how the salesland foundation summer campus works

Post by muskanislam99 »

A few weeks ago we talked about the Salesland Foundation's summer campus, which is being developed within the Despega Project and in collaboration with Escuelab.

Today, we bring you a very interesting interview we did with Julián Masso, who recently joined the project as Campus coordinator, and is doing a fascinating job!

Q. How big is the project? How many days a week is the campus and how many children attend it?

R-. The project is in full growth after a very complicated 2020. Right now we are working with fourteen families - fifteen minors -, plus those families who are not here in Madrid in July. We are developing the Summer Campus every day of the week, during all the weeks of the month.

Q-. What is a day like at the Summer Campus? (What do you do, activities…)

A-. The Summer Campus starts at nine in the morning bosnia and herzegovina whatsapp lead with the reception of all the children and, after the reception, we do an hour of sports. This is followed by a short break where the children have lunch, and we do two and a half hours of workshops; both traditional crafts and science workshops provided by our collaborating entity, Escuelab.

After an hour of lunch, we carry out all the workshops that we have not finished in the morning or we carry out a workshop to reinforce the school work, to prepare the participants for the new school year.

We finish with cooperative games that end at five in the afternoon, when all the minors are picked up.

Q-. What is your biggest challenge as a campus coordinator?

A. Challenges arise every day. So far, the biggest challenge has been making ourselves known within the district population and the entities that work here. It is also a challenge to get families involved and participate in the development and progress of the Campus.

We are currently working to increase the number of participants and reach as many families as possible, not only now at the July Campus, but throughout the entire school year.

Q-. What is the most positive aspect of an initiative like this? What value can it bring to those who participate in the campus?

R-. The most positive thing? Without a doubt, reaching families whose resources do not allow them to offer summer camps to their children. These are very expensive camps and, thanks to this project, they can do so at no cost. Offering them a safe environment, where we do not have to worry so much about the pandemic that surrounds us; offering them leisure and free time that is directed and healthy.

As for value… I wouldn’t talk about value, but about values, which is what we work with in this project. We work on values such as tolerance, respect, companionship, cooperation, collaboration… Also offering them a bit of an environment where they can socialize, again, after a year in which we have all been isolated in our homes and where they can feel like they are children again.
