We see: the introduction of domestic products into work processes

Post by tanjimajuha20 »

Only 60% of Russian companies will be able to import-substitute software by 2025. This forecast was made by Ideco after surveying more than 1,500 executives responsible for cybersecurity of companies, top managers, and middle managers.

In a column for Forbes, Dmitry Khomutov, director of Ideco, which works in the cybersecurity industry, discusses possible reasons why our software cannot yet compete with foreign analogues

is beginning. This was influenced in one way or another by the presidential decree No. 250 of May 1, 2022, which prohibits government agencies, companies with state participation, entities of critical information infrastructure and systemically important enterprises from using protection tools from "unfriendly" austria whatsapp number database countries from 2025. The document obliges to switch to Russian software so that organizations can master local software faster.

However, by 2025, only 60% of companies will completely abandon foreign solutions. The reorientation to domestic products of the remaining 40% of companies may drag on until 2030, while a complete transition to Russian developments may not occur.

We came to this conclusion after surveying 1,524 respondents about their readiness to import software substitution from early September to late October 2023. The study involved managers responsible for company cybersecurity — 34%, top managers and middle managers — 66%.

Russia, despite its significant place in the global economy, has a small share in the software segment compared to its share relative to the global GDP. It is difficult to maintain the demand of local companies for domestic software. In addition, the domestic information security segment differs significantly from Western solutions. The difference between the two software is mainly explained by the peculiarities of Russian legislation. For this reason, our developers use completely different local software solutions compared to foreign companies. Thus, the main technological difference between Western equipment and Russian equipment is the development of foreign services towards clouds and a service model over the past five years. This means that software like ours has not been developed there for a long time. In Russia, the implementation of clouds is an order of magnitude less than in the West. Boxed and server solutions are still popular on the domestic market.

However, it should be noted that for businesses and the corporate sector, the capabilities of such products are limited compared to Western analogues. In our opinion, foreign competitors surpass Russian software in the speed of traffic processing and solving complex high-tech problems (data processing on Big Data, through AI, on remote servers, etc.). For this reason, only 25-30% have abandoned Western software. To a greater extent, the transition was made by state-owned companies (86%), and private businesses to a lesser extent (24%).

Organizations that have not yet abandoned foreign products note that they do not trust domestic software (28%), and for 52% of enterprises the process is complicated by the transfer of processes to new equipment. In addition, 13% of Russian business representatives are confident that our solutions cannot yet offer the necessary functionality.
