Three quarters of all companies do not have a fixed budget for digital training
Lack of budget and time are major obstacles
Digitalization brings with it a great need for further training, but only very few companies have the appropriate budget available for it. This was the result of a joint study by the digital association Bitkom and the TÜV association, for which 504 companies with ten or more employees in Germany were surveyed. Only 22 percent of companies have a fixed budget for further training in digital skills. The majority of companies (75 percent) do not have a fixed budget to finance the appropriate training for their employees.
"There is a broad consensus that lifelong learning is becoming increasingly important in the workplace - and yet it often fails due to a lack of budget for the relevant training," says Bitkom education expert Juliane Petrich. "But there is still a lot of catching up to do when it comes to digital technology. This could include courses on how to use standard office software correctly, but also training on technical basics such as programming languages and legal basics on the Internet such as copyright or data protection."
When asked about possible hurdles in connection with further training in general, brazil gambling data the lack of financial flexibility in companies is one of the most frequently cited reasons. Four out of ten companies (42 percent) say that further training is too expensive or that there is not enough budget. The only obstacle mentioned even more frequently is a lack of time: just over half of the companies say that there is no time for appropriate leave of absence (52 percent).
With regard to further training for employees to acquire and deepen digital skills, 27 percent of companies say they have difficulty assessing the quality of the offers. For 26 percent, the offers are not sufficiently tailored to their own needs. Just as many do not have the capacity to release employees during the training period. For 24 percent, the offers are too expensive.
The range of further training opportunities on digital topics is also reflected in the seminar offerings of the Bitkom Academy. Since 2005, it has been the point of contact for the further training and qualification of specialists and managers on IT topics and digital trends and offers various further training measures. In 2018, around 10,000 participants from companies in a wide range of industries received further training in seminars at the Bitkom Academy.
