Do you need a new website or any service related to website creation and development? Find out how to request a quote for your website!
If you want a website creation service for your company, don't ask for a quote before reading this post!
I have seen many cases of people who lost (a lot of) money when hiring a professional or a company to create a website.
In some cases, the service provided was very poor – but most of the time, what was missing was clarity in the briefing (i.e., the information needed to develop the project).
No, you don’t need to understand marketing, design or macedonia number dataset just to ask for a quote. But you basically need to be able to explain in detail “what your website will be used for”.
With that in mind, I wrote this post to explain how to request a quote for website creation and development (and other services), and also give some tips on how to avoid getting ripped off.

Website quote: find out how to request it
Below, see an example of a quote request that I usually receive:
Hello! I need a quote for a website. How much does it cost?
Fictitious (but common) request
Can you tell me what's wrong with this request? If not, that's okay: I wrote this post just to guide you on the subject!
The problem with this type of request is the following: unfortunately, no two websites are the same, so it is impossible to quote a website without having some details about what will make up that website .
Keep in mind!
Did you know that choosing the wrong hosting can reduce your Google score, cause slowness and even leave your website vulnerable to hacks and viruses?

A quote is like a doctor's appointment: you can't expect the doctor to cure you, for example, without you telling him what your problem is. He needs this type of information, and possibly to do some tests, to prescribe a treatment.
Imagine, for example, that Google wants to know how much a website costs them. At the same time, the lunchbox vendor in your condominium asks the same question. Coincidentally, São Paulo Futebol Clube also wants to know how much it costs to create a website.
One is a multinational with dozens of sub-sites with specific tools, another is a person who probably needs to promote their products and services, and another is a football team with a huge database of players and news.
Can you imagine that a website could have the same price and creation process for these three types of clients?
But of course not!
Therefore, every website must be budgeted individually. And as I mentioned above, you, who want the website, do not need to understand design or programming: you just need to know how to explain what the website will be used for!
What does a quote request need to have?
First of all, I want to make one point clear: there is a chance that you – yes, you yourself – don’t understand anything about websites, but there is nothing wrong with that .
On the contrary: you must master what really matters for your business (i.e. managing your company). In other words: there is no reason for you to have technical knowledge about creating websites .
Therefore, my idea is to completely simplify the task of requesting a quote. This way, both those who are more “in tune” with new technologies and those who have never had much contact with the digital environment will be able to request a quote easily.
To do this, I will separate this topic into two parts: basic information and technical information.
Basic information
The basic information that must be included in a quote request is:
Details about your company: First of all, you need to make it clear what your line of business is;
Purpose of the website: That is, why you want to have a website and how you imagine your customers will use it;
Visual preferences or references: In this case, you can cite other websites with visuals or tools similar to what you have in mind for your project.
Often times, this information may not be enough to prepare a budget. But it’s a start.
After all, with this information, any qualified web designer or developer will be able to guide you, whether to answer questions or indicate the best path.
This is when you will be able to differentiate the professional who only does what they ask from the professional who offers solutions as a partner – in other words, differentiate someone who wants your money from someone who works with results.
