Smartphone users who do not want to use the app are guided primarily by their gut feeling. A third of non-users do not believe in the effectiveness of the app (33 percent). One in four (24 percent) has concerns about data protection, and one in five (21 percent) is worried about being spied on by the federal government in this way.

A similar number (20 percent) fear data misuse by third parties and one in six (16 percent) is worried that the app will use up mobile data more quickly. Only 11 percent of non-users say that their smartphone does not have the necessary system requirements for the app. But even if those people had a suitable device, 41 percent of them were against the app.

"All of these concerns are unfounded and ignore the facts. The app meets the highest usa gambling data data protection requirements, and conclusions about individual app users are impossible. This is also confirmed by data protection officers," says Berg. "The app can always be used even with a low monthly data volume. The mobile network operators in Germany do not charge for data for the Corona warning app."

Note on methodology: The information is based on a survey conducted by Bitkom Research on behalf of the digital association Bitkom. In the first week of July 2020, 1,005 people aged 16 and over were surveyed by telephone.
