The EU agreed on a new copyright directive on Wednesday.
Bitkom CEO Dr. Bernhard Rohleder explains :
"The copyright reform is a step forward for artificial intelligence . In all other areas, the directive only has losers. The EU has opted for upload filters and against freedom of expression. First delete and then upload again if there is a complaint - this reduces the right to free speech to absurdity. To a certain extent, we will have to say goodbye to the freedom of expression we know.
It will now be extremely difficult for European startups to set up new communication malaysia gambling data platforms with user-generated content. The negotiated compromise for SMEs offers no protection in practice. The ancillary copyright law for press publishers that has been adopted is also counterproductive. Like the German ancillary copyright law, it will not lead to an improvement in media quality. On the contrary: the diversity of the press on the Internet will noticeably decrease.
The only thing that is to be welcomed is the outcome of the negotiations on so-called text and data mining. In addition to science and research, the economy is also exempt from prior permission from a rights holder. The EU is thus creating legal certainty and paving the way for innovations in the field of artificial intelligence ."
