How did marketing go digital?
As we mentioned, there was marketing before the Internet, but afterwards everything simply changed. Companies had to adapt to this new digital era that would forever change people's consumption habits.
At first, the creation of personal computers and the global information network, or Internet, gave indications of the great change that would come in consumer habits and marketing.
Then, the invention of devices that allowed this massive exchange of information brought with it the power to decide what content to consume or not, at any time and place.
So marketing has had to adapt as well. There's no longer a TV where a person is forced to watch a brand ad. Now brands want users to watch their 15-second YouTube ad before they start the video and go to their website, right?
Digital marketing has transformed the way businesses are created. Nowadays, it is no longer mandatory investor data to have a physical store to sell a product.
It also transformed the way of consuming information about a product; people search on Google or on their social networks when they want to know about something.
It changed the way people know that a business exists. Now people access a company's website and if they want to visit it, they do so thanks to Google Maps.
So, since the invention of the Internet, marketing has had its biggest transformation, as it changed the role of companies and customers: now all strategies are focused on attracting and retaining customers.
