1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. Due to the aftermath of the war, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire were not allowed to compete, and the newly formed Soviet Union chose not to participate. The next Olympics were held four years later in Amsterdam, and were notable for being the first to allow women to compete in track and field. It was also the first time that the Games introduced sponsorship, with the Coca-Cola Company being the very first sponsor. The 1928 Amsterdam Games also saw the introduction of the standard medal design by the IOC.

numerous problems between 1932 and 1940, from the Great Depression affecting the attendance british student data of athletes at the 1932 Los Angeles Games, to the 1936 Games being used to promote Nazi propaganda, to the 1940 Games in Tokyo being moved to Finland before eventually being cancelled. And due to the war, the 1944 Games that were to have been held in London were also cancelled. Four years later, after the end of World War II, London was allowed to host the first post-war Games.

The Olympic Games from 1952 to 1964 were all successes, although they each had their own shortcomings. The first Games in Latin America were held in 1968 in Mexico City. The Games featured numerous expressions of civil rights activism due to political tensions in many countries. Then, the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich became even more political when a terrorist group attacked the Olympic village and took the Israeli representative hostage. Unfortunately, several people were killed during this attack, which distracted from the athletic achievements of the Games.
