Participation is a good thing and everyone benefits from it, but there must be a limit. Team members who want to be noticed, especially those working remotely, may feel that volunteering for everything, answering emails and attending meetings will be seen as a positive. Leaders tend to be high performers and are especially passionate about their work, which may be why they get promoted.

We can do it. Although the balance may be different for different people and at different times in life, this balance is very important. Good leaders model engagement, but great leaders model a solid work-life balance because that’s what their teams need, too.
