David Llewellyn, head of the Vending and Automated Retail Association, says that last year automated micromarkets — small supermarkets without employees — grew by 367%. They allow you to pay for purchases using an app or through an automated checkout.

Meanwhile, vending machine sales of healthy snacks (with less than 5% fat and 0.2g salt) have also increased by 147% in the past year. And vending machines are becoming more diverse. For example, you can now buy false eyelashes, perfume and even prescription drugs.

Enrico Dona works for Pharmaself24, a provider of prescription drug dispensing machines that have seen demand surge during the pandemic. It takes just 3-4 hours to install, and b2b email list pharmacists see it as an “extra employee.” Patients, in turn, save time: they can come in at their convenience, enter a PIN, and pick up their products.

In April, the first pizza vending machine was installed in Rome. The machine can handle many popular types of pizza and takes only three minutes to prepare. Such a pizza can be purchased for $5.21-6.94.

The pandemic and the fight for sustainability are changing vending machines. “There are a number of problems that are not easy to solve,” says Dona. “However, our technology will bring benefits and change our operations for the better.”
