Chilean entrepreneurship success story
In the context of Earth Day, we wanted to talk to Maximiliano Costa, co-founder and CMO of a company that has been making headlines lately, due to the tremendous impact they are generating and the environmental purpose behind the company.

What is GoodMeal?

In simple words, it is a sustainable food application that allows you to buy surpluses from restaurants, cafes, bakeries and businesses at a more convenient price, while contributing to environmental aid.

The idea came about because his partner, Rodrigo Haydar, worked for several years in the food industry. His last experience was in a salmon farm where he experienced first-hand the waste of these products, “tons of salmon were thrown away due to problems with some export paperwork, but not because of the product's unpleasant taste” says his partner.

For this reason, in 2020 she decided to go to job seekers database to study an MBA at one of the world's leading universities with a sustainable focus, in Denmark. During the selection process, she asked what most of the students did after studying the program, and they told her that some of them worked at a company that deals with food waste.

Thanks to this great reference, they wanted to bring the idea to life in Chile and become a waste hero to become fighters against food waste. In addition, Maximiliano tells us that they always wanted to do things and had several ideas, but they needed an enterprise with impact, such as GoodMeal .

successful Chilean entrepreneurship
Today, this tremendous undertaking works with more than 600 associated businesses, which are geographically located in the Metropolitan Region and the Fifth Region. Some of the sectors that can be accessed through the app are greengrocers, bakeries, neighborhood businesses, restaurants, and well-known brands such as Starbucks, Dunkin, Tavelli, among others.

How have you built trust with the app's users and customers?
An important factor in the logistics of this business has been to build consumer confidence that the product they will find in the goodbags is in excellent condition and is not garbage, but rather a waste of the business.
